Drug peddler held in Awantipora

SRINAGAR — Acting tough against the drug dealings, Police in Awantipora claimed to have arrested a drug peddler and recovered contraband substance from his possession.

Police spokesman, in a statement issued here, said that officers at a checkpoint established near Lethpora Crossing intercepted a person, identified as Bilal Ahmad Wani of Lethpora Awantipora.

During checking, officers were able to recover 30 kilograms of contraband substance (grinded Cannabis) from his possession. He has been arrested and shifted to Police Station Awantipora where he remains in custody, spokesman said.

Accordingly, police said that a case under FIR number 194/2020 under relevant sections of law stands registered at Police Station Awantipora and further investigation has been initiated.

Meanwhile, police urged community members to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood.

Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law, police said.
