GANDERBAL — The mercury soared to 34.8°C in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district on Sunday, marking the hottest day of the season in the Kashmir valley this May.

A meteorological department official quoted by a local news agency said that Ganderbal recorded the highest temperature at 34.8°C, followed closely by Qazigund at 33.5°C.

Other notable temperatures included 32.7°C in Srinagar, Bandipora, and Shopian, 32.6°C in Anantnag and Pulwama, 31.3°C in Budgam, 30.9°C in Baramulla, and 31.5°C in Kokernag. Jammu experienced a sweltering 42.5°C.

The Kashmir valley, along with parts of Jammu, is experiencing an intensified heatwave, with the meteorological department predicting hot and dry weather conditions to persist for the next week.
