SRINAGAR — The Jammu and Kashmir Government has granted the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) permission to conduct periodic field firing practice at the 100-meter baffle firing range located within the premises of the Group Centre CRPF Lethpora (RTC Srinagar) in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

According to an official notification issued by the Home Department, this authorization has been granted under the provisions of the Manoeuvres, Field Firing and Artillery Practice Act, 1938.

The government, invoking sub-section (2) of Section 9 of the Act, has accorded formal approval to the CRPF for a period of 10 years, commencing from the date of issuance of the notification.

“The Government of Jammu and Kashmir hereby authorizes CRPF to carry out periodically the Field Firing Practice throughout the area notified as 100-Meter Baffle Firing Range vide notification S.O-547 of 2024 dated 26.11.2024 at Group Centre CRPF Lethpora (RTC Srinagar) District Pulwama,” the notification reads, while stressing that the drills must be conducted in strict compliance with all provisions of the 1938 Act.

The baffle range at Lethpora serves as a critical training facility for CRPF personnel stationed in Kashmir, ensuring safe and contained practice environments for live firing without posing risk to civilian populations.

Baffle ranges are designed with overhead and lateral protection to prevent stray bullets from exiting the designated training area.
