Gunfight breaks out in Srinagar outskirts

SRINAGAR — A fierce gunfight broke out between militants and government forces in Ranbirgarh area in outskirts of central Kashmir’s Srinagar district.

A senior Police officer said that one Army soldier has been injured (hit by bullet in leg) in the ongoing operation in Ranbirgarh. The injured soldier has been shifted to 92 Base hospital for further treatment, the officer said.

Earlier, a joint team of Police and Army’s 29RR launched a cordon and search operation in Ranbirgarh on a specific information.

As the joint team of forces approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon them, triggering off a gunfight.
