SRINAGAR — Attendants during a protest hurled fire-pots (Kangris) over hospital employees after the death of a patient at District Hospital Anantnag.

Attendants assembled in the hospital premises on Wednesday and amid slogans against hospital authorities, hurled a couple of Kangris over the hospital employees. Some of the attendants entered into a scuffle with Para-medical staff.

Eyewitnesses said that the situation turned ugly after a patient Muhammad Akram (55) breathed his last in the hospital. Akram, a resident of Kund Qazigund was brought to the hospital for treatment on Tuesday night. His family members accused doctors of negligence and said that the patient died due to the absence of the doctors in the hospital.

‘We brought the patient at 12 AM in the night. A doctor shifted him to Casualty but to our shock, all the doctors left the hospital after half an hour. Our patient died as doctors didn’t take care of him,” said a family member of the deceased.

Medical Superintendent – District Hospital Anantnag, Dr Zahoor Ahmed Gilkar said the condition of patient was very critical when admitted in the hospital. “We tried our best to save him. The allegations of family members that no doctor took care of him are sham,” he added. (CNS)
