LeT militant killed in overnight gunfight in Pulwama

SRINAGAR — A Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) militant was killed in an overnight gunfight in Chatapora area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Monday.

A top police officer said that a militant of the LeT outfit was killed in an encounter with police and security forces.

Earlier, reports reaching here said that a joint team of J&K Police and Indian Army launched a cordon and search operation in Chatapora area.

As the joint team of forces approached the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon the forces, triggering off a gunfight.

114 militants killed so far this year: IGP Kashmir

Meanwhile, Inspector-General of Police Kashmir Vijay Kumar said that 114 militants have been killed so far in the valley this year.

Among the total militants killed this year, 32 are foreign militants. Last year, the number of foreign militants was only 21, as per the top cop.

It is pertinent to mention here that in the last 10 days, 24 militants have been killed in various gunfights.
