National Investigating Agency (NIA)

SRINAGAR — National Investigation Agency (NIA) conducted raid on a business owned by a business family. The raid was conducted at Palapora area of north Kashmir’s Pattan town.

Sources said that NIA sleuths raided the house of a businessman Ghulam Muhammad Mir and arrested his son Muhammad Ashraf Mir. Mir is associated with dry fruit business.

A family member confirmed the arrest of Muhammad Ashraf Mir and told Kashmir News Trust that NIA team accompanied by Jammu Kashmir policemen and Central Reserve Police Force personnel conducted a thorough search of the house and seized cell-phones, cheque books and other stuff. “NIA team seized some 15 cheque books, 10 cell-phones belonging to family members and other documents.”

Ghulam Muhammad Mir, according to sources, is the father of five sons and the one who was arrested by NIA sleuths is 24 years old. He is a retired Army supplier who at Palhalan area has readymade and dry-fruit shops.

Police sources said that Muhammad Ashraf Mir, who has been arrested, had visited Pakistan some two years ago. On Wagah Border, he was detained by Punjab Police and later on handed him over to Jammu Kashmir Police. Mir was released after facing 13 months detention at Sub-Jail Baramulla.

Reliable sources said that the raid was conducted in connection with ‘funding case’.
