TRAL — Over 50 illegally raised shops were on Monday demolished in Tral area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district, officials said on Wednesday.

Officials said that a demolition drive was today launched in Bus Stand area of Tral with an aim to clear encroachments and illegal constructions in the town.

In this connection, at least 54 shops were demolished in the Bus Stand area, officials said, adding that the drive was headed by Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Tral, Shabir Ahmad Raina, who was accompanied by SDPO Tral Dr Aijaz Qureshi; SHO Tral Gulzar Ahmad; Naib Tehsildar Tral; EO Municipal Committee Tral and other officers.

Besides shops, various other illegally raised structures were demolished by the authorities.

Meanwhile, the shopkeepers whose shops were demolished have demanded rehabilitation.

ADC Tral Shabir Ahmad Raina, however, said that he will try to take steps to rehabilitate these shopkeepers soon.
