Protest turns violent against garbage dumping in Wahibugh Pulwama

SRINAGAR — Residents of Wahibugh area in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Wednesday held a strong protest against the district administration over the dumping of garbage in the area.

Reports reaching here said that the people in the area have been demanding relocation of the dumping site, which according to them has the potential to damage the quality of fruits.

A local said that the dumping site chosen by the administration lies adjacent to orchards which may damage the quality of our fruit. The local said that they had already apprised the authorities about the growing apprehensions among the fruit-growers but no step was taken by them.

Soon after the protestors swelled, governmental forces manning the road, resorted to cane charging and also fired pellets which resulted in injuries to two youth.

The injured youth identified as Adil Ahmad and Mohammad Shafi were removed to District Hospital Pulwama. The condition of both the injured is said to be stable.
