PULWAMA — The residents of Rahmoo hamlet in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district have urged the Rural Development Department to complete two under-construction sports grounds in the area at the earliest so that local youth can take part in sports activities.
Locals, mainly youth, of the area while talking with news agency Kashmir News Observer (KNO) said that work on one ground was started around two years before which is still incomplete while work on other ground was started almost a year before which is nowhere near completion.
Rayees Ahmad, a local youth, said that ground in Rohmoo A has been left without fencing and leveling due to which local youth interested in sports are unable to play.
He said that for a long time, they have been bringing the issue to the notice of concerned authorities but to no avail due to which local youth are getting involved in drug addiction.
Ishfaq Ahmad, another local, said that despite state land being available in the area at several places in Rohmoo B, authorities have chosen a spot close to Rohmshii Nallah due to unknown reasons. He said that the concerned department must reconsider their decision and instead of choosing a vulnerable spot, they must select a safer place.
Qayoom Khan, another local, said that youth of the area were happy when they heard that two grounds will be constructed in the area but their dreams are yet to come true and authorities are resorting to delay tactics. “Now the authorities will start work in November-December which will not last long, thus resulting in loss to the state exchequer,” Khan said.
Local youth have requested authorities to resume work on the grounds in the area and complete them at an earliest so that they can also take part in sports activities and keep the budding generation away from drug addiction.
Meanwhile, concerned BDO Riyaz Ahmad, when contacted, said that one ground is ready except chain links are pending which will be done very soon. “The work on the second ground is also going on and it will be completed in one month besides that third ground will be constructed in Kamrazipora hamlet of the area,” he said.
