Shopian-Pulwama Working Journalists' Guild elects its president

PULWAMA — Renowned broadcaster and All India Radio correspondent for Pulwama, Mir Nazir has been elected as President of the Shopian-Pulwama Working Journalists’ Guild on Monday.

According to reports, the prestigious Akashwani Award winner Nazir was unanimously elected as President in a meeting held today which was also aimed to elect the body of the forum.

All the members of the guild from Shopian and Pulwama participated in the meeting during which its other office bearers were also elected.

Besides Nazir, Jan Nisar (AIR News) was nominated as Vice President, Naik Dawood (Zee Salaam) as General Secretary, Mohammad Imran (Freelancer) as Spokesperson and Qayoom Khan (CNN News18 / GNS) as Treasurer of the guild.

During the meeting, the members pitched for unity and role of the association for the overall welfare of journalists.

“We have united ourselves under the SPWJG for the welfare of journalists working in Pulwama and Shopian districts,” said the members.

They said that need of the hour was to highlight the public grievances and raise every issue concerning general public, adding that there is no space for black sheep who are maligning the image of media.

Meanwhile, Mir Nazir expressed gratitude towards the members for showing faith in him as president of the guild.

The senior members who were present in the meeting include Ashiq Mohiuddin (Times Now), Mohammad Iqbal (Aaj Tak / DD News), Ashiq Hussain (ANI), Ajaz Dar (Zee News), Syed Manzoor (News18 Urdu), Sheikh Kousar (Gulistan News), Shah Basharat (INS), Mushtaq Ul Islam (CNS), Umar Rashid (GNS), Nazir Ahmad (ANN), Junaid Gulzar (Kashmir Essence), Kaisar Mir (TV9), Firdous Ahmad (Fast News).
