Srinagar: Government forces on Thursday night claimed to have killed a militant in a shootout at Sagipora area of Handwara in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.
An Army official said that acting on a tip-off, a Naka was laid by Army’s 7 sector at Sagipora today late evening.
In the meantime, a car was signalled to stop, the militants traveling in it fired upon the Naka party, the officer said, adding that the fire was retaliated,- resulting into the killing of one militant.
The officer said that the body of the militant has been recovered along with arms and ammunition.
Sources identified the slain militant as Naseer Teli, who recently joined Tehreek Ul Mujahideen outfit.
Meanwhile, the officer said that the area has been cordoned off along with the additional reinforcements of police and 92 bn CRPF to nab the other militants who fled in the vehicle.
In wake of the killing, authorities decided to impose restrictions in parts of Sopore. (GNS)
