Three militants killed in Kulgam gunfight

Srinagar: Three militants have been killed at Wani Mohalla, Khudwani area of Kulgam district after an encounter broke out early Sunday morning between government forces and militants.

DGP JK confirmed on Twitter that the trapped militants were responsible for killing the abducted cop in Kulgam earlier.

DGP said in his tweet, “Militant group that tortured our colleague CT Mohd Saleem of Kulgam & killed him brutally are all trapped in an encounter with J&K Police/Army/CRPF in Khudwani Kulgam”.

He further revealed that all the three militants have been killed but they have recovered only one body so far as searches were going on to retrieve other two bodies of militants from the encounter site.

Meanwhile, a police source said that all three militants belonged to Lashkar-e-Toiba militant outfit. He identified the slain as Abu Muaviya of Pakistan, Mudassar Ahmad Bhat of Katarsoo and Suhail Ahmad Dar of Redwani Kulgam.

Locals said that two houses were damaged by the forces during the gunfight that began at 5 AM today. One of the houses belonged to a relative of slain militant Umar Rashid, they said.
