SRINAGAR — Two gunfights broke out between government forces and militants in south Kashmir districts of Shopian and Anantnag on Saturday.

One gunfight raged in Hadipora area of Shopian district after a joint team of Police and Army’s 34 RR launched a cordon and search operation in the area.

As the joint team of forces approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon the forces, triggering off a gunfight.

A senior police officer also confirmed about exchange of firing between militants and security forces.

On the other hand, a gun-battle raged in Samthen area of Anantnag district after a joint team of Police and Army launched a cordon and search operation in the area.

As the joint team of forces approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon the forces, triggering off a gunfight.

A senior police officer also confirmed about the exchange of firing between the militants and security forces.
