Two militants killed, gunfight on in Shopian

SHOPIAN — Two unidentified militants have been killed in an ongoing gunfight in Gadhapora area of south Kashmir’s Shopian district.

Official sources confirmed that the house in which militants were trapped has been blasted and two militants have been killed. However, the operation is still on, they said.

Meanwhile, as per locals, massive clashes have erupted in the area near the encounter site and were going on when this report was filed.

Earlier, on specific inputs about the presence of militants in the area, a joint team of forces including 34 RR and SOG of Jammu and Kashmir Police launched a search operation in Gadhapora Ratnipora area of Shopian.

On intensifying the search operation towards the suspected spot, hiding militants fired upon forces which was retaliated, triggering an encounter.

Meanwhile, in wake of the gunfight internet services have been snapped in Shopian while in other parts of south Kashmir, it has been reduced to 2G.
