SRINAGAR — Two militants were killed in an encounter with government forces in Srinagar outskirts, area of Ranbirgarh, on early Saturday morning.

A top police official, while confirming the killing of two unidentified militants in the encounter, said that the gunfight continued till late Saturday afternoon, wherein two militants were killed.

Meanwhile, he said that one Army personnel was also injured in the initial exchange of fire, who was shifted to 92 base Army hospital in Badami Bagh, where his injured leg has been operated upon.

The gunfight started after intelligence agencies received inputs about the presence of militants in Ranbirgarh, Panzinara area of Srinagar and a joint team of Army’s 29 RR, CRPF and Jammu and Kashmir Police laid a siege around area.

While the searches were going on, militants hiding inside a house fired indiscriminately upon the search party, resulting in a fierce gunfight between the forces.

The injured forces’ personnel was injured in the initial volley of fire from the hiding militants. He received a bullet injury in his leg.

Later, in the retaliatory fire, two militant were killed, whose identity is being ascertained, said the officials.
