
SRINAGAR — Two prominent Kashmiri clerics and five banned Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI) activists were booked by Jammu and Kashmir Police on Thursday and have been shifted to a Jammu jail, police said here.
The news agency KNS reported that the clerics who have been booked under the Public Safety Act (PSA) include Moulana Abdul Rashid Dawoodi and Moulana Mushtaq Ahmad Veeri.
Additional Director General of Police Kashmir Zone, Vijay Kumar said that two religious persons (Molvi) and five Jammat-e-Islami activists were arrested under the PSA.
Notably, the PSA allows detention without charge or trial for up to two years in some cases.
