SRINAGAR — The Jammu & Kashmir Assembly on Friday witnessed a heated exchange of arguments between a National Conference (NC) and a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) legislator.
According to the news agency ANB, PDP leader and MLA Pulwama Waheed Para defended Jamaat-e-Islami and former PDP founder Mufti Mohammad Sayeed against remarks by NC MLA Nazir Gurezi, who called Jamaat-e-Islami as “traitors”.
Responding sharply, Para said that if any talk of traitors arises, the first tag belongs to Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah for his sellout, not Jamaat or the PDP founder.
Pointing towards the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Para said that this isn’t just an ordinary House but history is recorded in the Legislative Assembly. “We raised our voices so that history doesn’t view today’s resolution as surrender, betrayal or sellout by the people, even as we supported it.”
However, Gurezi later moved a motion saying he didn’t say anything against the Jamaat and sought investigation into the matter.
NC members clash with Sajjad Lone, Fayaz Mir over BJP allegiance accusations
Meanwhile, a heated confrontation triggered in the Assembly when Tanveer Sadiq of National Conference accused five non-NC MLAs of aligning with the BJP.
The accusation received an immediate reaction from Sajjad Lone of J&K Peoples Conference and Fayaz Mir of J&K Peoples Democratic Party. Both the legislators stood up and countered Sadiq’s claims.
Sajjad Lone was heard accusing the NC of being the first party to partner with the BJP, pointing his remarks at NC leader Omar Abdullah.
“Wasn’t he the foreign minister, defending human rights violations in Kashmir?” Lone challenged, adding, “It’s fine when you gift shawls, but you dare to accuse others?”
