A health professional who was a frontline COVID-19 warrior has been left in lurch after he tested positive for Coronavirus.

A renowned Epidemiologist was allegedly ruthlessly thrashed by Para-military troopers in Chadoora town of central Kashmir’s Budgam district on Wednesday morning.

COVID-19 has cast a shadow on the top leadership of the Kashmir’s healthcare set-up as a leading pulmonologist and Head of Department, Chest Disease Hospital Srinagar, one of the exclusive facilities for the management of the novel coronavirus in the Valley, has tested positive for the pathogen.

In the backdrop of incidents involving alleging beating and detaining of a cardiologist and stopping of a medical officer in the last 24 hours, Inspector General of Police (Kashmir) Vijay Kumar has ordered police officers to “facilitate the COVID warriors, especially doctors and paramedics, smoothly” in the Valley.

Chief Medical Officer Bandipora, Dr Tajamul Hussain lost his cool when he was stopped by police near Nusoo village while on way to visit quarantine centres in the district.

A senior cardiologist posted at SMHS Hospital Srinagar was allegedly thrashed and lodged in Police Station Zadibal for the whole day and was also threatened not reveal he was in the police station.

J&K High Court has sought a report from Government of India whether complaints have been received from any other category of professionals including media persons, bankers, advocates, chartered accountants, etc.

Five doctors and 11 travellers tested positive for COVID-19 in Kashmir on Sunday late night, taking the tally of total positive cases in the Union Territory to 1199.
