Srinagar district cannot be militancy-free for various reasons, Inspector General of Police, Vijay Kumar, said on Friday.

A militant has been killed and a CRPF personnel injured in a gunfight between militants and government forces in Malabagh area of central Kashmir's Srinagar district.

A day after 65-year-old Bashir Ahmad Khan was killed in north Kashmir’s Sopore town, an activist on Thursday moved the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) for an impartial probe into it.

National Investigation Agency (NIA) has taken over the narco-module cases where heroin worth Rs 100 Crore and cash Rs 135 Crore were recovered in Handwara and also the second case wherein 21 kg heroin was recovered by the J&K Police, top police officials said.

Inspector General of Police (Kashmir Range), Vijay Kumar today said that Lashkar-e-Taiba militants who were hiding in a mosque carried out the attack at a CRPF naka party at model town Sopore that led to the death of a CRPF man and a civilian while a minor boy was rescued.

Khan, being a contractor, was heading towards the construction site in Sopore but little did he knew that he will not return home alive.

Police in a statement on Tuesday said that on February 02, 2020 at about 12:50 PM, "some unknown militants hurled a grenade upon CRPF personnel, with the intention to kill them, who were deployed near Sumo Stand, Pratap Park Srinagar."
