PULWAMA — A major fire broke out at Fruit Mandi Pulwama on Monday, destroying thousands of plastic crates stored in the facility. The incident occurred in the evening hours, quickly reducing large stacks of crates to rubble and causing panic among local residents living in the close vicinity.

The cause of the fire was not immediately known. According to eyewitnesses, the flames spread rapidly, engulfing a significant portion of the storage area. “Within minutes, thousands of crates were reduced to ashes,” said a local trader.

Prompt action by local residents helped prevent further damage. Many rushed to the scene and worked together to separate unaffected crates from the fire’s path, potentially saving thousands more from destruction.

The Fire and Emergency Services department responded swiftly and managed to bring the blaze under control, minimizing the extent of losses. A team from Pulwama Police also visited the spot to assess the situation and initiate preliminary inquiries into the incident.

President of Fruit Mandi Pulwama, Javid Ahmad Bhat, while speaking to media persons, said, “Initial estimates suggest that over 15,000 plastic crates have been damaged. We are still in the process of assessing the full extent of the losses.”

No injuries were reported in the incident. Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine the exact cause of the fire.
