Kulgam: A video showing militants escape on bikes has gone viral on social networking sites including Facebook. The militants seen in the video are believed to have escaped from the Kulgam gunfight.
People, gathered on both sides of the road, are seen whistling and whooping as the militants escape on motorbikes from the site.
Pertinently, four civilians and an Army soldier were killed during the gunfight and ensuing clashes in on Wednesday.
The gunfight broke out in Wani Mohalla area of Khudwani at 11 PM on Tuesday after forces launched a cordon-and-search operation.
“During the search operation, some gunshots were heard after which an encounter started,” an official said.
As the news about the civilian killings broke, clashes between protesters and government forces erupted soon after in most of the districts of the valley.
Meanwhile, a police statement said that two militants escaped from the encounter site. “One of whom is said to be injured. This injured militant is identified as Azad Dada of Arwani who is wanted in a number of serious cases involving killing of civilians,” the statement read.
