PULWAMA — A legal literacy programme against ragging was on Monday organized at Government Mehjoor Memorial Boys Higher Secondary School Pulwama.

The programme was organized by Tehsil Legal Services Committee Pulwama in collaboration with the higher secondary school.

Focussed on “Anti-Ragging Laws / Rights of Children Related Laws,” the event witnessed presence of Justice Mohammad Altaf Khan. Besides, the programme was also attended by senior advocates, school lecturers and students among whom many shared their views about the menace of ragging and ways to deal with it.

Justice Mohammad Altaf Khan discussed various legal provisions for reducing the menace of ragging and also made the audience aware about how the act of ragging was criminalized.

He, however, said that the educational institutions need to do more as far as awareness and implementation of the legal provisions against ragging are concerned.

“The programme was  basically for inculcating values in the budding minds so that they are not involved in acts of ragging,” said M.S. Gowhar, Principal of Government Mehjoor Memorial Boys Higher Secondary School Pulwama.

Vice Principal of the school, Manzoor Ahmad said, “These sort of events are needed to spread awareness and for curbing the illegal act of ragging which has ruined the lives of many students.
