PULWAMA — A woman died on Wednesday at Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) Soura after being allegedly burnt by her in-laws at Rajpora area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

As per the locals at the deceased Fahmeeda Akhtar’s native Qasbayar village, the woman was first admitted at a local hospital in Rajpora a week ago, from where she was shifted to District Hospital Pulwama and subsequently to SKIMS Soura.

Due to the emotionally charged situation, The Kashmir Pulse could not verify the actual date on which the woman was hospitalized for the burn injuries.

Family members of Fahmeeda alleged that she was burnt alive by her in-laws as the husband-wife duo was having some issues, besides a family dispute over land.

Fahmeeda’s brother said that they received the news from the neighbours of her in-laws while the in-laws didn’t inform them. “When I reached District Hospital Pulwama, I saw my sister in an ambulance where she told me that her in-laws did this to her,” her brother said.

The woman finally succumbed to her injuries at SKIMS Soura today after battling for a week there.

Meanwhile, her family members staged a protest in Qasabayar village, demanding justice and action against the culprits.

However, attempts to contact Fahmeeda’s in-laws didn’t materialize even after repeated attempts.
