SRINAGAR — Continuing its sustained drive against illegal mining, the police in Awantipora intensified operations across the police district and seized five vehicles allegedly involved in the illegal extraction and transportation of minerals.

Officials said the action was carried out in the Datpora and Reshipora areas, where a police party from Police Post Reshipora conducted a targeted operation. During the drive, two loaders, two tractors and one dumper were seized for their alleged involvement in unlawful mineral transportation.

The operation was led by In-Charge Police Post Reshipora Sub Inspector Meheraj-ud-Din under the supervision of the Sub Divisional Police Officer Awantipora.

Authorities said the move forms part of a broader campaign to curb illegal mining activities that cause environmental degradation and revenue loss.

Police identified five persons allegedly involved in the case as Jahangeer Ahmad Bhat of Chakoora Pulwama, Nadeem Ahmad Mir of Litter Pulwama, Sajad Ahmad Dar of Reshipora, Ali Mohammad Dar of Reshipora and Zubair Ahmad Mir.

Officials stated that appropriate legal proceedings have been initiated under relevant provisions of law, and further investigation is underway. They reiterated that strict action will continue against those engaged in illegal extraction and transportation of minerals across the district.

Police have urged the public to cooperate and report any such activities to help safeguard natural resources and maintain lawful mining practices.
