BARAMULLA — Authorities on Tuesday demolished a shed allegedly constructed and occupied by relatives of Parliament attack convict Mohammad Afzal Guru on state land in the Sopore area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, officials said.
The action was carried out by a Revenue Department team as part of an anti-encroachment drive, with officials saying the structure had been erected on a flood-basin area classified as state land in violation of government regulations.
According to officials, the structure was associated with members of Guru’s family and was being used by them. The demolition formed part of action against unauthorised occupation and construction on government land.
Reports from the site indicated that the operation involved sheds and related structures, while the main residential structure associated with Guru’s family was not the focus of the reported demolition.
The action comes amid an ongoing drive by the administration to retrieve government land under unauthorised occupation and remove structures allegedly constructed in violation of applicable land and revenue regulations.
