Two Hizbul Mujahideen militants killed in Kulgam gunfight

SRINAGAR — Two militants have been killed in an ongoing encounter which broke out between militants and government forces at Melhoora village of south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Tuesday.

IGP Kashmir, Vijay Kumar (IPS) said that two militants have been killed in the ongoing encounter.

As per the sources, two more militants are still trapped in the encounter and are believed to be from Ansar Gazwat.

Earlier, reports reaching here said that a joint team of Army’s 55 RR, Police and CRPF laid a siege at Melhoora village late Tuesday evening.

A police officer said that the operation was launched following inputs about the presence of some militants. He said that the exchange of fire took place in the area soon after the joint team fired some warning shots towards the suspected spot.

The militants tried to break the cordon amid the exchange of fire, however, the joint team engaged the militants in the gunfight.
