Searches underway as militants abduct cop from Kulgam

SHOPIAN — Government forces launched a search operation after suspected militants abducted a policeman in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district late this evening.

Sources said that suspected militants abducted a policeman identified as Sartaj Ahmed Itoo from his native Shirpora village of Kulgam. The cop is posted at Railway Station Srinagar.

Yesterday, militants had abducted a cop Javaid Ahmed from Shopian. However, he was set free late Thursday night.

Sources said that shortly after the incident, government forces cordoned off Shirpora and adjacent villages and launched a search operation. The operation was underway till the filing of this report.
