Nocturnal gunfight rages in Awantipora village

PULWAMA — A nocturnal gunfight broke out between militants and government forces in Shar Shali area of Khrew in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

Sources said that a joint team comprising Army’s 50RR, SOG and CRPF launched a cordon and search operation in Awantipora area.

A senior officer said that contact has been established with the hiding militants after government forces zeroed in on the suspected spot where militants were beleived to be present.

As per the sources, two to three militants are believed to be trapped in the area.

When this report was being filed, exchange of firing was going on.
