Youth injured after shot at by gunmen in Shopian

SHOPIAN — Unknown gunmen on Saturday shot at a youth in Nidoora area of south Kashmir’s Shopian district, leaving him dead on way to hospital after being seriously wounded.

A police officer said that suspected militants fired upon Subzar Ahmad Naiko, son of Abdul Rashid Naikoo, this evening.

Subzar, who was working in the RDD department, suffered serious bullet wounds and was shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment wherein he was referred to SMHS Hospital Srinagar. However, the injured youth succumbed to his injuries on the way to hospital.

Medical Superintendent SMHS, Dr Nazir Chaudhary said that the youth was brought dead to the hospital. Subzar had received bullet injuries in his abdomen and thigh, he added.

Soon after the incident, the officer said that security forces launched a hunt to nab the attackers.
