SHOPIAN — A militant has been killed in the ongoing gunfight between militants and joint forces in south Kashmir’s Shopian district, police said on Wednesday.

Earlier, an encounter broke out between militants and joint forces in Chek-e-Cholan village.

Joint forces had launched a cordon-and-search operation in the village following information about the presence of militants there, a police official said.

The search operation turned into an encounter after the militants opened fire at the security personnel, who retaliated, he said.
