SRINAGAR — The top court of India Friday directed eleven states to take steps to prevent attack on Kashmiri students in the wake of Lethpora attack that left dozens of CRPF men dead and several others injured.
The orders were passed by a Bench headed by Chief Justice of India – Ranjan Gogoi, Advocate Zaffar Inayat said.
He said the Writ Petition No.60/2019 was filed by Petitioner Tariq Adeeb about attack on Kashmiri students and was listed as Item No. 51 before Court 1.
Lawyers who appeared in the Writ Petition include Sr. Adv. Colin Gonzales, Zafar Inayat, Zia Kabir and Satya Mitra.
The Supreme Court while hearing the writ petition has directed the nodal officers as per the list furnished by the Attorney General to take necessary steps to prevent acts of violence against Kashmiris.
Further, the appointment of these officers will be given wide publicity by the Ministry of Home Affairs in all states so that all acts of assault, intimidation, social boycott and threat can be brought to the attention of nodal officer.
“We have also gone through the advisories issued by the Home Ministry to the Chief Secretaries and the DGPs of all states. These advisories already issue shall be reiterated from time to time. The Chief Secretaries, the DGPs and the Police Commissioner of Delhi are directed to take prompt and necessary action to prevent all incidents of threat, assault, social boycott and other coercive acts in the aftermath of the terrorist attack of February 14”, the Chief Justice ordered.
The next hearing of the case is scheduled on February 27. (KNS)
