SRINAGAR — Following a major crackdown on socio-religious group Jamaat-e-Islami (Jammu and Kashmir), a cleric, Mushtaq Ahmad Veeri from south Kashmir has been booked under Public Safety Act (PSA).
As per media some reports, he was shifted to Jammu jail early morning on Thursday.
The reports said that Mushtaq Veeri was arrested on 24th of February 2019 along with several other members of religious groups after government started crackdown on religious leaders in Kashmir valley.
His family also refuted reports that he had been released on Wednesday evening.
However, Jamiat-e-Ahlihadees in a statement condemned the slapping of PSA on Veeri and termed his detention as an ‘attack on religion’. “Jamiat will not sit back on this,” the statement said.
Government should be held responsible of things that might follow it,” a statement quoted Jamiat-e-Ahlihadees President, Ghulam Mohammad Bhat as saying.
Urging the government to release him immediately, Bhat said that people should thwart any plans ‘to ban Islam itself’. “The government is aiming to ban Islam itself from the state,” they said.
