Kulgam shuts for fourth consecutive day against civilian killings

Srinagar: A complete shutdown is being observed today for the fourth consecutive day in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district against the killings of three civilians, including a minor girl, in Hawoora village.

Reports said that all shops and other commercial establishments are closed while public transport remained off the roads in Kulgam, Qaimoh, Khudwani and Yaripora areas.

A skeletal movement of vehicles was reported from these areas.

Three civilians – 13-year-old Andleeb Jan, 19-year-old Shakir Khanday and 22-year-old Irshad Lone – were killed after Army opened fire on civilians in Hawoora village on Saturday.

However, the Army maintained that they opened “controlled fire” after they were attacked by a mob and fired upon by “militants” from within the crowd.
