
SRINAGAR — Pakistan Sunday said that a woman was killed after Indian troopers fired shells from across the border. Pakistan media, on the other hand, reported that Indian troops across the border opened fire and resorted to shelling in the border district of Rawalakot, killing a woman on the spot.
The media reports identified the deceased woman as Shauzia Akhtar who sustained a shot in the head and chest as she prepared breakfast in her home along the border.
Cross border attacks are frequent but in recent days, attacks have increased with both Pakistan and India reporting soldiers killed in the fighting.
On the very first day of the current month, two Indian soldiers Havaldar Gokharan and Nayak Shankar Kumar were killed in Pakistan shelling at Choranda area of Uri along Line of Control in Baramulla. Earlier, three civilians were killed in Taumana Chowkibal area of Kupwara.
Meanwhile, reports said that an Indian soldier sustained injuries after receiving a sniper shot along Line of Control in Poonch district.
