KUPWARA — Road accidents are sorrowfully on rise in the Kashmir valley. These accidents have led to the deaths and injuries at large.

Amid spike in these incidents, the government has failed to take any strict measures or actions to prevent such accidents and save the precious lives of common people.

It is worth mentioning that in February 2020, WHO alarmed by saying that road accidents are the leading cause of death for children and millions suffer from these tragic incidents.

Yesterday, a road mishap took place in Hatmulla area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district in which a tractor, which was moving from Kupwara to Nagri, collided with a bike (JK09-1565), and resulted in the on-spot death of one person, namely Murtaza Ahmad son of Mohammad Mukhtar Mir from Hatmulla, while injuring the other, namely Parvez Ahmad, who was referred to SKIMS for further treatment. Meanwhile, a case has been registered in this regard and investigations are going on.

What is most important is that both the government and the commoners have failed to curb such tragic and devastating incidents.

For the last 10 years, the government made tall claims to prevent such crashes. However, the present situation seems contrasting and the claims of the government seem to be confined to papers only.

Road safety should be of the prime importance of Traffic, Transport, R&B and other departments. They should work collectively to ensure complete road safety.

The government should come up with a proper plan to curb such incidents which result in the loss of precious lives.
