Three militants likely trapped as gunfight erupts in Shopian

Srinagar: A gunfight broke out between militants and goverment forces in Sangran area of south Kashmir’s Shopian district early morning today.

Reports reaching here said that a joint team of Army’s 34RR, CRPF and SOG cordoned off Sangran area during wee hours.

As the joint team intensified searches towards a suspected house, the hiding militants fired upon goverment forces triggering an encounter.

A senior Police official said that initial contact has been established after having credible input about the presence of some militants.

As per the sources, two to three militants are believed to be trapped.

However, after initial exchange of firing, no firing has been reported for the last one & a half hour which suggests that the trapped militants may well have escaped.

Reports also said that clashes erupted between protesters and government forces near the encounter site.

Meanwhile, mobile internet (2G/3G/4G) has been snapped in the south Kashmir district. (With GNS Inputs)
