New Delhi: Accusing the Omar Abdullah-led government of failing to provide timely relief to flood victims in Jammu and Kashmir, All India Gurjar Leaders Organisation on Tuesday demanded its dismissal and the Centre to take over the rehabilitation work.
“Since the J&K government has failed on all fronts and is unable to carry out its constitutional and social duties, the All India Gurjar Organisation demands that the Abdullah government be immediately dismissed and the state be placed under President’s rule to allow Centre to take over relief and rehabilitation work,” the organisation’s convener Eshfaq-ur-Rehman Poswal said during a press conference.
He said many routes in far-flung areas of the state were still damaged and unusable and the state government did not have proper statistics of the damage caused due to floods.
The organisation praised the Indian Army for its exemplary work in rescuing the people from flood-hit areas and appreciated that the entire country came forward to lend a helping hand to the people of Kashmir.
Also addressing the press conference, Mohan Lal Gurjar, a Gurjar leader who represents Rajasthan, reiterated the communities demand for a Scheduled Tribe status.
“We have been fighting for it since 2002. Today, the BJP is in power both at the Centre and the state, we want them to fulfill our demands. We also want all the cases which were filed against our people during the agitation to be revoked,” he said.
Ranveer Lohiya, leader who represented Haryana, said, “If our demands are not met, we will be forced to agitate again.”
