A purported video is viral in which a family from south Kashmir’s Shopian district makes a fervent appeal to their militant son, just 17 years old, to return home for the sake of his elderly parents.

In an audio clip, which has gone viral, a youth from Shopian has claimed that he has been “forced” to join militant ranks by a deputy Superintendent of Police in south Kashmir's Shopian district whom he accused of torturing and committing incessant atrocities.

Probably for the first time since the eruption of militancy in Jammu and Kashmir, the number of militants killed is equal to the number of casualties suffered by government forces in a single month of any year.

251 armed forces and 118 civilians were killed in various militant incidents in Jammu and Kashmir during the last three years, MoS Defence, Shripad Naik said.
