Srinagar: The government forces on Thursday allegedly vandalized property during a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in Murran area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

Locals said that the forces barged into a few residential houses in the village and conducted door-to-door searches.

During the operation, the forces allegedly damaged property and thrashed several residents in the village.

Sources said that a cordon and search operation was launched in the village last evening following inputs about the presence of militants.

The search operation was called off the next morning after government forces found nothing, they said.

During the operation, clashes also broke out between government forces and youth in the village. The forces retaliated with teargas shelling, sources added.

Local sources said that many youth were arrested by government forces in the village during the CASO.

They identified the arrested youth as Sameer Ahmad, Sahil Ahmad, Arshid Ahmad, Amir Ahmad, Tawseef Ahmad, Firdous Ahmad, Nayeem Ahmad and two brothers namely Arif Ahmad and Irfan Ahmad.

It is pertinent to mention that the area is a native village of active militant Showat Ahmad Dar.
