PULWAMA — Several villages in southern Kashmir’s Pulwama district were put under siege by joint teams of government forces on Monday.

Reports said that a joint team of Police, Army’s 55, 53 RR and 182BN, 183BN of CRPF launched the cordon and search operation in Rahmoo, Goosu, Murran, Ashmandar and other adjacent villages.

Sources said that the search operation was launched around 2:00 AM by the joint forces after receiving specific information about the presence of militants in these areas.

According to locals, door-to-door searches were conducted in the villages. Meanwhile, minor clashes were also witnessed.

However, the search operation was called off after the government forces failed to locate any militants or their hide-outs.
