Pulwama: At least two militants were killed in an ongoing Tral gunfight with government forces on Saturday in forest area of Tral in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir, police sources said.
An official said that a gunfight erupted after forces cordoned off Gujar Basti in Wantiwen forests of Satura village.
He said that two to three militants have been killed during the firefight with Army’s 42 RR and Special Operations Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir Police so far.
He said that the militants, who were yet to be identified, belonged to Jaish-e-Muhammad outfit.
The official said that at least five more militants are believed to be hiding in the area.
DGP S. P. Vaid said that two dead bodies of militants were visible who could be ‘foreign terrorists’.
He said helicopters and para commandos have been pressed into service to neutralise the rest of the hiding militants.
Meanwhile, six protesters were injured in clashes in Satura village as the news about the killing of militants spread in the area.
Reports said that clashes erupted in Satura, Bus Stand Tral amid a complete shutdown in the area.
Six protesters who sustained minor injuries in the clashes were shifted to PHC Aripal for treatment.
Mobile internet services have been snapped in the area as a “precautionary measure”.
