Srinagar: CCTV Footage of SMHS Shootout has surfaced wherein militants are seen fleeing after opening fire on policemen escorting the Pakistani militant prisoner, Naveed.

A Lashkar militant, identified as Naveed Jat, escaped after militants attacked the police party escorting him for a medical check-up at SMHS today, leaving two cops dead and another injured.

The deceased cops were identified as Mushtaq Ahmad and Babar Ahmad of Bradi Shangus Anantnag.

Three cops are said to have sustained bullet injuries in the attack among which two succumbed to their injuries. The inmate fled from the spot along with the attackers.

SOG, Police and CRPF immediately cordoned off the area and started searches to trace out the attackers.

Meanwhile, panic gripped the SMHS hospital following the firing incident.

Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Mehbooba Mufti was grieved over the killings, even as her predecessor and opposition leader Omar Abdullah also expressed his grief over the twin killings.

The two took to social networking site, Twitter to condole the twin killings. Mehbooba wrote on Twitter: “Pained to hear that two more brave policemen lost their lives in an attack in Srinagar today. My heart goes out to their families and loved ones”.

Omar also in his Twitter condolence message wrote: “Two J&K policemen killed by terrorists inside Srinagar’s premier hospital. Heartfelt condolences to the families of Constables Mushtaq & Babar.” (With GKNN Inputs)
