[youtube src=”mz7U_npGqD8″/] Srinagar: In Kashmir’s Pulwama district, senior Hurriyat leader Shabbir Ahmad Shah led a protest demonstration against the decision of High Court to ban sale of beef in Kashmir.
Shabbir Ahmad Shah addressing the rally, friday, said that the court order was unacceptable and aimed at hurting the sentiments of Muslims. “We strongly condemn such interference in religious affairs by judiciary. Mufti Muhammad Sayeed has no right to rule the territory as during his reign the Halal is being made Haram, which is totally uncalled for and deserves every condemnation,” he added.
Shabir Ahmad Shah, while terming the greater unity among separatist leadership of Kashmir as good omen for the freedom movement said only such steps would guarantee success in our mission. Terming the unity of pro-freedom camps under the leadership of Syed Ali Gilani, he said the rock like stand and courage of the octogenarian leader is exemplary. “Despite his poor health and old age, the way Gilani Sahib is leading the movement is noteworthy and worthy to follow.
He appealed people to stay away from Congress, PDP, NC, BJP and other pro-India parties and recognize their friends and foes. “We should not forget the sacrifices of our martyrs and the mission for which they laid their lives”, he maintained. Shabbir Shah on the occasion told people that he time and again tried to meet them but the authorities continuously kept him under house arrest.
Commenting about the escalating tension between India and Pakistan, he said the resolution of Kashmir dispute is the only way to achieve peace in the region. He urged India not to add fuel to already burning situation which can lead to further deteriorating of the situation.
After addressing the gathering, police arrested dozens of DFP activists and hundreds of civilians. They also used teargas firing and resorted to lathi charge to disperse the people present in gathering. Police also arrested senior party leader Er Farooq Ahmad Khan during nocturnal raid in Islamabad and others from various areas.
