Snow leopard chases skiers in Gulmarg

[vimeo 155212414 w=100 h=350]It is one of the wildest places on the planet to ski but a group in Gulmarg in Kashmir came a little too close to nature when they encountered a snow leopard during an off-piste run in the Himalayan resort.
Footage of the animal, captured by a camera strapped to one of the group of skiers as they traversed through the powder, showed it crouching in the snow before it hurtles off down the mountain.
After a few shrieks in surprise, the skiers continue their run through the trees down to the resort, a fairly primitive collection of small lodges and hotels, many without central heating.
The video was taken by Owen Lansbury and uploaded to Facebook on February 11.
Snow leopards are endangered and elusive creatures. In India, they are found in the Himalayas in the states of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh, according to the World Wildlife Fund India.
Indian government estimates that the country is home to 10% of the global snow leopard population.
The nonprofit is currently undertaking a survey of the animal in Kargil District in Jammu and Kashmir.
