Car laden with explosives owned by Hizb militant Hidayatullah

SRINAGAR — Jammu and Kashmir Police claimed to have traced the link between the Santro car with close to 40 to 45 kgs of IED aimed for a militant attack and its owner, who it said is an active Hizbul Mujahideen militant.

The said car was laden with huge quantity of explosive material and was successfully traced by the government forces in Rajpora neighbourhood in Pulwama district on Thursday, after it was abandoned there by suspected militants after jumping two nakas laid by Police, CRPF and Army, in view of prior inputs of 2019 Pulwama like attack. The explosive material was destroyed by bomb disposal later in the day, IGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar disclosed on Thursday afternoon, in a press conference held in Srinagar.

Officials said that the car belongs to Hidayatullah Malik S/O Abdul Hamid Malik R/O Sharat Pora village in south Kashmir district of Shopian, who has been active since 2019.

Sources said that Hidayatullah, along with Walid, a Pakistani militant Ismail is involved in planting the IED in the car. Ismail was also behind the February 2019 Pulwama blast in which 40 CRPF personnel were killed.

Meanwhile, the brother of Hidayatullah has been detained for questioning by the security agencies in connection with the planning of a 2019 Pulwama like attack, which was averted by Police, CRPF and Army on Thursday. He is said to have been picked up from his hometown Shopian.

If sources are to be believed, the case has not been handed over to NIA yet; however their team is in Valley and the call is being taken, whether the case be handed over to NIA or not. Investigators are probing similarities between Pulwama 2019 and 2020.

The common link is said to be Mohammed Ismail alias Fauji Baba, alias Lambu alias Adnan, one of the nephews of Azhar Masood, who is said to be an IED expert and his role is under scanner.
