PULWAMA — The residents of several localities of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Friday accused the district administration of subjecting them to inconvenience due to the dilapidated condition of several roads including main roads from Pulwama to Srinagar.

Locals said that the road connecting Pulwama to Srinagar via Newa-Khanda, for instance, has developed huge potholes as the concerned department has failed to repair the road.

“This particular road is in extremely bad condition, especially at Urwan and Parigam. The dusty condition of this stretch makes it hard to commute through this place while in the event of rain, the road turns muddy and slippery, making it impossible to even walk or travel, using a two-wheeler,” said the locals.

The locals further added that the condition of other roads is similar as roads from Pulwama to Srinagar via Kakapora Marval is one such example which is in a pathetic condition while the other main roads and link roads of the town are also craving for official attention.

“The administration seems to have forgotten these roads including major link roads which connect several areas with district headquarters. No work has been taken up for the last so many years,” said local residents of Pulwama district.

They said that the bad conditions of roads not only give the commuters a tough time but it also consumes a lot of their time in reaching from one place to another.

“The passenger vehicles have suffered damages due to the bad condition of the roads and the road from Wanpora to Pulwama is a nightmare for any cab operators who tread through this stretch frequently. The scene is no different in Newa, Urwan, Parigam, Kakapora, and Rajpora villages of the district as people accuse the authorities of neglect which has resulted in the creation of huge potholes on the road,” locals said.

“Roads from Pulwama to Awantipora via Koil Tengpona, Pulwama to Rahmoo via Murran, Kakapora to Padgampora via Lelhar and Ratnipora, Kakapora to Begum Bagh via Naman, Larbal Kisregam and Pinglena to Pulwama via Inder areas of the district are also in shambles,” the residents said.

They said that they have apprised the concerned authorities on many occasions but they have never paid any heed towards their repeated pleas. The residents of these areas now appeal the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir and Deputy Commissioner Pulwama to personally look into the matter in order to have redressal of their grievances.
