SRINAGAR — A driver working in the Fire Services Department lost his life in a tragic incident in Charar-i-Shareef on Thursday morning, when his own vehicle overran him, resulting in his on-spot death.

The incident occurred when the driver namely Zahoor Ahmed Bhat, a resident of Hanji Pora, Chadoora and working in the Fire Services Department at Charar-i-Shareef in central district Budgam, mistakenly forgot to pull the hand break after putting the fire tender he was driving in the neutral gear. Since the vehicle was parked over a light slope, it began to move in reverse direction.

No sooner did Zahoor realize that the vehicle was moving and might result in a disaster, he rushed towards the vehicle to stop it, but before he could reach the driver’s seat, he was caught under the vehicle, with the rear tyres overrunning him, resulting in his on-spot death.

Police reached the spot and rescued the body with the help of locals from underneath the vehicle and rushed it to the hospital, where he was declared dead.

A case regarding the incident was registered in Police Station Charar-i-Shareef and after the completion of medico-legal formalities, the body was handed over to the family for last rites.
