SRINAGAR — A magnitude 6.0 earthquake struck the Kashmir Valley in the early hours of Monday, September 1, 2025, at 12:47 AM IST, sending tremors across parts of India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan.
The epicenter was located 25 km from Goshta, Afghanistan, according to USGS National Earthquake Information Center.
The quake occurred at a moderate depth in the affected regions, with residents in Srinagar and surrounding areas reporting mild to moderate tremors.
Local authorities in both India and Pakistan reported no immediate casualties or significant structural damage.
The earthquake’s effects extended to Afghanistan, near the epicenter, and Tajikistan, where shaking was reported. The region, situated along the collision zone of the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates, is known for frequent seismic activity.
This event follows a series of earthquakes in the region this year, including a 5.8-magnitude quake in April that affected similar areas.
Seismologists warn that the Kashmir Valley and surrounding regions remain highly vulnerable to earthquakes due to their location on active fault lines.
