Misuse of social media will not be allowed: DGP


SRINAGAR — Jammu and Kashmir Police Chief Dilbagh Singh on Monday issued a tough warning against the misuse of social media, while briefing media about Tral encounter in which three militants were killed during the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday.

While addressing a press conference in Police Control Room Srinagar, Director General Jammu and Kashmir Police, Dilbagh Singh said that one of the three militants Jahangir Ahmed Wani, who was killed in a successful operation in Tral was a dreaded militant and was involved in eight militancy related incidents and killing of two civilians of Tral – Mehraj Zargar and Ghulam Nabi Mir, adding that Jahangir was also involved in setting a mosque on fire.

Dilbagh Singh said that during last two months, a total number of 16 militants were killed in anti-militancy operations and Tral encounter was one of the most successful operations after the killing of Hizb commander Hamad Khan, who was replaced by Jahangir Ahmed Wani, killed in yesterday’s Tral encounter.

In reply to a question, Singh said there are solid reasons to defer Panchayat elections. He added that some people, including media persons, are misusing social media through VPN and spreading rumours, which could result in disturbance of law and order situation, which cannot be tolerated.

He said that if rumour mongering continues like that, our next step will be to take relevant administrative and security related decisions to deal with it.
